It's funny how when it's snowing we take so much more notice of everything around us. The prospect of falling over in the street makes us wary and watch every step we take. Which is how i got this image. Yeah it's just a lottery scratch card that has been discarded, but because of this project, everything i see i start to analyze and contextualize. And this old lottery scratch card does represent something. It's the waste, the loss, the flippant spending, the let down. It has been thrown and discarded because it means nothing, but when it was bought it could have been everything. And it's that contrast that i love. With gambling, it's all about the risk taking, the rush, but thats how quickly everything can change. I've been trying to decide about my final images, I'm not sure wether or not to take completely new images or use individual ones that together tell the story that i want too. We're coming to the end and i'm trying to draw everything together from what i've learnt and done throughout this project. Hmmm. I'll be back later.

Like this idea too, it's similar to peoples obsession with celebrities, how they can be idolised by millions one moment, dicarded and forgoten about the next. This is also a type of addiction in itself, Getting hooked to reality tv shows for example.(I'm just as guilty). Again some good ideas coming through. PS thanks for your feedback.

ReplyDeletethere is some really interesting work here -- what I would like to see now is the edit. As this will make the project. Have a shot at putting up say six images that are the project (the final choice of number I leave to you) and my feeling about the project and the edit is that possibly a series of interiors accompanied by the thoughts of Gary
I'm glad you looked at the Robert Frank image because I think that may prove the key -- but you have the images to work with!!
Well done
Hugh
Thanks for the comment Sophie, Im coming to like those images a lot more.
ReplyDeleteYour right that the small things stand out alot when it snows, I found myself photographing lots of fag ends when I was doing my snow pictures, and this being a scratch card it ties in perfectly with the other work you've done. Like it.
